Our Mission
Danzantes Unidos de California is the cultural network of Mexican folk dancers and artists in California . It was incorporated in 1994 to promote and support the Mexican Folk experience through the performing and visual arts, including, but not limited to, the annual three-day festival known as the Danzantes Unidos Festival.
The Organization
The festival was hosted in Los Angeles from 1979 to 1984 after which time the torch passed to San Jose from 1985 to 1989. Fresno took up the responsibility in 1990 and 1991. In 1992, failure to find a host resulted in the cancellation of the event. A meeting of California folklorico directors was convened in Fresno and a Steering Committee was established to ensure the survival of the festival. In 1994, the organization incorporated as a non-profit organization functioning within the state of California . In 2001, the organization was awarded its federal nonprofit status.
